Heat Advisory Safety

Heat Advisory Safety

A Heat Advisory is in effect from 12 to 8 pm today for the Raleigh area, Sandhills, and Coastal Plain, where heat indices could be 105 to 109.

It is recommended to limit outside work or activities if possible, and take extra precautions if you have to be outside. This includes wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drinking plenty of water!

Here are a few additional tips to stay safe.

If you’re outside, find shade. Wear a hat wide enough to protect your face.

Avoid high-energy activities or work outdoors, during the midday heat, if possible.

If using a mask, use one that is made of breathable fabric, such as cotton, instead of polyester. Don’t wear a mask if you feel yourself overheating or have trouble breathing.

Consider pet safety. If they are outside, make sure they have plenty of cool water and access to comfortable shade. Asphalt and dark pavement can be very hot on your pet’s feet.

Also remember to check on family members, seniors, and neighbors.

Identify places in your community where you can go to get cool such as libraries and shopping malls.
