James William “Jimmy” Thompson, Jr.

James William “Jimmy” Thompson, Jr., 67, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022 at his home. Born in Wayne County on December 20, 1954, he was the son of June Carolyn Ellis Thompson and the late James W. Thompson, Sr.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bea Phipps.

In addition to his mother, Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Vanessa Thompson of Wilson; sisters, Nanette T. Aycock and husband Phillip of Fremont and Judy T. Smith and husband, Elton of Goldsboro; nieces and nephews, Phil Aycock, Nancy Corbett, Ryan Aycock, and Zachary Smith; his great-nieces and great-nephews; and Paula Lineberry.

Fifteen years ago, Jimmy was hired to do a contract painting job for First Baptist Church in Raleigh. The relationship quickly grew into a part-time job, and in 2017 he was hired full-time. He was primary contact for special events, weddings and community events. Jimmy was also responsible for upkeep duties related to the church and grounds. Jimmy loved and was loved by the church staff and many of its members.

Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, golf, working in his yard planting flowers and growing tomatoes and peppers. Because of his many years of working at various golf courses as golf course superintendent, his love of growing grass led him to build a beautiful putting green in his own backyard. Jimmy had a great love for his dogs, Casey, Lucy, and Peter Pan.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Seymour Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Jimmy’s life will follow at 5:30 p.m. in the chapel with Dr. Wayne Hager and Dr. Chris Chapman officiating.
