June 18, 2022, 80, Pikeville –

Eleanor Dare Edmundson Gooding, age 80, passed Saturday morning at Wayne/UNC Health Care. Born in Wayne County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Luby Erastus and Atha Ginn Edmundson. A 1960 graduate of Pikeville High School, Eleanor earned her Associates Degree in Nursing thru training with Wayne Memorial Hospital. Prior to her retirement with Cherry Hospital, she was a registered nurse with Wayne Memorial Hospital ER, Barry of Goldsboro and AP Parts and O’Berry Center. She was also a member of Community Baptist Church.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held Monday, June 20, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Lewis officiating. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held immediately following the service at the funeral home. A committal service will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in the Edmundson-Smith Family Cemetery, 1846 Big Daddy’s Road, Pikeville, NC.

Eleanor is survived by her husband of 42 years, Bobby Lee Gooding; sons, Hank Kearney & wife, Virginia, Bruce Kearney & girlfriend, Kaye Howell, Bobby Lee Gooding, Jr & wife, Shirley Proctor, and Rodney Ray Gooding & wife, Leeann Gooding; sister, Laurie Andrews & husband, Thomas; fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Kearney; her brothers, John Edmundson, George Edmundson and Keith Edmundson.
