George Britt Martin, 83, of the White Flash area near Mount Olive, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 8, 2022, at his home.

George was raised in Mount Olive. HIs parents were the late Ammie N. Martin and Jessie Britt Martin. He graduated from high school and college, and served in the United States Navy. He had been a farmer for most of his life, but had worked at Reeves Brothers and had done carpentry work in his earlier years.

George is survived by his fiance and long time companion, Winnifred Southerland Bell; daughters, Lynn Martin Elmo of Goldsboro, Barbara Martin Musselman and husband, John, of Coco Beach, Fla., and Ann Weeks of Asheboro; his “son,” Martin Sanchez of Mount Olive; grandchildren, Jordan Musselman and Marissa Musselman; a “grandson,” Fernando Sanchez; his brother, A. N. Martin III of Mount Olive; and a nephew, Steve C. Martin of Mount Olive.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a son, George B. Martin, Jr.; and a nephew, N.C. Trooper Michael L. Martin.

In remembrance of George’s life, a graveside service will be held Friday, June 10, at 11:00 a.m. in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive. Officiating will be the Rev. Ashley Summerlin. The family may be greeted at the cemetery, and also at the home.
