UNC Health Wayne Undergoes Enhancements in Emergency and Pediatric Services

UPDATE: 1 Shot At Wayne UNC Healthcare; Lockdown Lifted

The Goldsboro Police Department and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to an active shooting call at Wayne UNC Healthcare in Goldsboro Sunday night at 8:17 pm.

The hospital was placed on lockdown, and one female victim was located on the 6th floor with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her leg. The victim was not a hospital employee but was wearing scrubs. The shooting was domestic in nature, and the lockdown was lifted at 9:10 pm.

The male suspect fled the scene after the shooting. The suspect’s identity is known, and law enforcement is working to apprehend the suspect. The incident is still under investigation.

In a statement released by Wayne UNC Healthcare they stated “This evening, there was a shooting of a visitor inside Wayne UNC. As this will remain an ongoing investigation, we are unable to share details. However, we are grateful for the professionalism of our Teammates and the quick response of our local law enforcement. Following a thorough sweep of the building we are grateful to announce that our facilities are safe and fully operational.”

Wayne UNC Health Care is a 316-bed community, not-for-profit hospital, which has been serving residents in Wayne County and surrounding areas for 120 years, with 1,700 employees and more than 150 physicians.
