Saturday morning the American Legion along with many VFW posts in Wayne County were busy putting out flags in the cemetery all across Wayne County in Honoring our Veterans. Volunteers and Boy Scout Troop 8 were busy placing flags in Wayne Memorial Park.

Sunday afternoon members of VFW Post 9959 alone with friends and guests took part in their annual Memorial Day Service held at the Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive. The service got underway at 3 p.m. with a welcome from VFW Commander Jimmie Outlaw followed by an Invocation by Reverend John Moore, Chaplain of Post 9959. Post Commander Jimmie Outlaw led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Steve Jones provided the special music for the service. Post commander Jimmie Outlaw introduced Col. Kenneth Sullivan Retired U. S. Army as the guest speaker. Following Col. Sullivan remarks was the wreath laying by VFW Commander Jimmie Outlaw and Auxiliary President Violet Saviak and the lowering of the flag to half mast as Taps could be heard in the background bringing the service to an end with the benediction from Reverend John Moore.
