Charles Ashley “Al” Alford

Charles Ashley “Al” Alford, 72, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at his home. He was born in Wayne County on October 18, 1949.

Al proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He retired as a tire building supervisor from Firestone. Al also worked in law enforcement with the Fremont Police Department and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. He volunteered as a member of the Fremont Fire and Rescue Squad.

Al was very active in his community. He was a member of the Home Lodge #613 A.F. & A.M. in Fremont and a Sudan Shriner with the Wayne County Shrine Club where he was active with the Sudan Mini Rigs. Al was also a member of the Pikeville American Legion, Post 541. With a heart for children, Al was active with his boys in the Boy Scouts of America, and coached baseball at Fremont.

Al was a dedicated and faithful member of Pleasant Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church.

Al is survived by his wife, Pat Bass Alford; sons and their wives, Ashley and Amy Alford and Chad and Andi Alford; grandchildren, Cole, Haley, Bryce, Abby, Tristan, and Wyatt; mother and step-father, Janice Blow Alford Kellum and Ward Kellum; Pat’s siblings and their spouses, Robert and Sandy Bass and Tammie and Jerry Beasley; and several nieces and nephews.

Al was preceded in death by his father, Charles P. Alford and his sister and her husband, Regina A. and Vic Howell.

A service to celebrate and honor Al’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2022 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Stallings and Rev. Jeff Toler officiating. Interment with military honors and Masonic Rites will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Seymour Funeral Home.
