Mrs. Jean Swinson Whitfield of the Mount Olive area received her heavenly welcome on Monday, May 16, 2022.

Mrs.Whitfield was preceded in death by her husband, David Burval Whitfield; her parents, Elmer and Edna Grice Swinson; and a brother, Bruce Swinson. Raised up in the Beautancus community near Mount Olive, she was raised in the Bear Marsh Church. After her marriage, she became a member of Thunder Swamp Church and through the years, she served as secretary/treasurer, was active in the Women’s Ministries of the church, and served on the hospitality committee. She also had been active in service with the local rotary club. For many years, she was employed with the Hatcher-Smith Motor Company as a bookkeeper.

Mrs. Whitfield is survived by three brothers, the Rev. Jimmy Swinson of Mount Olive, Donald Swinson of Richlands, and Clayton Swinson of Mount Olive; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, the Rev. Jimmy and Regenia Whitfield of Goldsboro; several nieces and nephews; and her wonderful team of care providers, Christy Crawford, Carol Atkins, Harriett “Pee Wee” Wheeler, Connie Underhill, Mary Harrell, and Christy Boley.

A service of witness to her life will be Thursday, May 19, at 7 p.m. at Thunder Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church, and will be officiated by the Rev. Jim Whitfield. After the service, a time of greeting with the family will take place. At 11 a.m. on Friday, May 20, a graveside committal service will be conducted by the Rev. Mark Whitfield in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.
