Reed Owen Bennett

May 11, 2022, 65, Goldsboro –

Reed Owen Bennett, 65, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, while being cared for by the staff at Helping Hands. Reed was born in Wayne County to the late John Allen Bennett and Ruth Alice Hood Bennett on March 29, 1957. In addition to his parents, Reed was preceded in death by a brother, John Wayne Bennett, and a special friend, Cathy Hardy.

Reed was born and raised in the Grantham Community. He enjoyed being a part of the Kinston Police Department for several years before returning home to help with the family dairy. He pursued many entrepreneurial endeavors throughout his lifetime with his most notable being owner and operator of E-Z Flow. He was known for working hard from sun up to sun down and was always chasing new projects.

If you searched the whole world over, you would never find a more loving and caring father than Reed. He looked after his children and provided an excellent support system for all their triumphs and disappointments. Although he was never able to truly know any of his grandchildren, we know he would have been a prized grandfather.

Duck hunting was Reed’s favorite pastime. He also enjoyed growing large harvests of vegetables to share from his garden. He ensured that his girls always got their hands and feet dirty every year planting potatoes as he rode around on the tractor “supervising.”

Most people can’t picture Reed without his dogs alongside him. Wherever Reed went, his dogs tagged along and could be seen enjoying the breeze from the back of his truck. He truly loved and cherished his dogs- perhaps most of all his nightly bed companion, Tootie.

The family is at peace knowing that Reed is now resting with Mt. Dew in hand and will be forever “taking a break.”

To celebrate Reed’s life, the family invites friends on Friday, May 20, 2022, to a time of sharing at the Grantham Community Center, 3371 U.S. Hwy. 13 South, Goldsboro. A meal will be served. The family encourages you to join them at 6:00 p.m. as they enjoy remembering Reed’s life.

Reed is survived by his daughters, Ashley Bennett Weeks and husband Stuart of Goldsboro and Dr. Kateland Bennett and husband, Dr. Derick Poindexter of Fuquay Varina; and his grandchildren, Cooper, Warner, Ashton, and Carter. He is also survived by his brothers, David Allen Bennett, Clark Hood Bennett and Jack Rose Bennett; and special relative, Robert Lynch.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
