Dorothy Jean Owens Chase

Dorothy Jean Owens Chase

May 15, 2022, 84, La Grange –

Dorothy Jean Owens Chase went to her heavenly home on May 15, 2022. Dorothy was born on July 25, 1937 to the late Sidney and Gladys Owens. She was a member of Tanglewood Church where she worshipped and served her Lord. Dorothy was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her kind heart and sweet spirit will be missed.

Dorothy loved to spread the message of Christ through her service and in song. Her passion for music was carried throughout her lifetime. Dorothy and her husband, Edwin “Squirrel”, sang with “The Mediators”, a Southern Gospel quartet that was afforded the opportunity to open for the Oak Ridge Boys twice when they performed in La Grange. Their home was open to practicing and preparing for the many events. Music could always be heard throughout their home and as they traveled in their car. It was as natural as breathing for them.

After the death of Squirrel, Dorothy continued in ministry by sending cards and calling others to pray with them. She wanted to let others know they were on her mind and in her heart. Dorothy enjoyed visiting and spending time simply sharing a few moments together.

Other than family and church, Dorothy’s love was her work. For over 42 years, she worked with Ed Mooring and later Pittard, Perry and Crone for her entire career. From January 1 to April 15 each year, this was her central focus and she loved it. She was no stranger to hard work. Everything she did was with full intent and maximum effort. She embodied the scripture from Colossians, “ Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” Even her leisure activity was done with all of her might. Fishing was her and Edwin’s favorite pastime. Nothing was quite as peaceful as the lap of water on the side of a pier.

Dorothy was able to experience the goodness of God in the land of the living. She not only enjoyed fishing, she also observed the beauty of God’s creation right outside of her own doors. She had numerous bird feeders that offered food to so many different types of birds. They offered songs to the Lord, just as she had for her entire life. She watched flowers bloom and God’s goodness spread throughout her land.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Tanglewood Church on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with committal to follow at Fairview Cemetery in La Grange. Dorothy’s family will receive friends for a time of visitation at Rouse Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 6 – 8 p.m.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 58 years, Edwin Earl “Squirrel” Chase, Sr.; and her siblings, Sidney Owens, Jr. and Billy Owens.

She is survived by her children, Ed Chase, Jr. (Kristel) and Sherry Chase Whaley (Johnnie); grandchildren, Matthew Chase Whaley (Mandy), Kallie Whaley Bryant (Trey), Trey Chase (Taylor), Rebecca Jean Chase, David Ray Chase and Madeline Rose Chase; great-grandchildren, Taylor Chase Whaley, Peyton James Whaley, and Percival Alexander Chase; and sister, Linda Owens Jones.
