May 3, 2022, 80, Goldsboro –
Nancy Fay Dunaway Jones, age 80, passed away Tuesday morning at the Brian Center in Goldsboro, NC. Born in Murfreesboro, TN, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Louise Spain Dunaway. She was a member of Eureka Christian Church and previous secretary of Daniels Memorial Church in Goldsboro, NC.
Nancy attended East Nashville High School and was a band major. She loved music, played the clarinet in the band and the piano. You would find her playing either the piano or the organ at any church where she was a member. She adored her family and would spend time with any of her eight grandchildren or 13 great-grandchildren when her health would allow. Over the years, she loved to go fishing, cook for her family and garden. For many years, she shared her love with her faithful companion, Ginger.
Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32, “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ”. She made friends everywhere she went and with her warm personality and infectious smile, made everyone feel welcomed and loved. Nancy was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as “Grandma”, Grannyma”, “Gma”, and “Gaga”
A Service to Celebrate her life will be held Friday, May 6, 2022, 3:00 p.m. at Eureka Christian Church with Rev. Frank Purvis officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, May 5, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home in Goldsboro, NC.
She is survived by her daughters, Pam Travis & husband, Wendell, Susan Paynter & husband, Scott, and Kimberly Holcombe & husband, Benjamin; sister, Bonnie Smith & husband, Jim; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
