Joyce Newcomb Newell, 88, passed away Thursday at Helping Hands Assisted Living. She was born in Wayne County to the late Sadie Pelt Williams and George G. Newcomb. After attending Brogden High School, she enjoyed working at Darden’s Sandwich Shop, Lori Manufacturing and many years of service before retiring from Barry’s of Goldsboro. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and enjoyed growing flowers, fishing, dancing and spending time with her pet poodle.

A graveside service will be held at Wayne Memorial Park on Sunday at 1:00 pm. Bishop Warren Barfield, Sr. will officiate. The family will receive visitors at the home of her brother, George Pete Newcomb.

Joyce is survived by her brother, George Pete Newcomb and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her brothers, Glenn Newcomb, Cedric Newcomb, and James Newcomb and a sister, Connie Turnage.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
