Mary Evelyn Smith Grady, 82, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her family. Born in Wayne County on February 5, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Bernice and Dessie Lewis Smith. She married William Earl Grady on June 5, 1959. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2006.

Evelyn attended Rhodes Friends Church where she was an active member of the Women’s Missionary Meeting. She also volunteered with the church nursery. Evelyn loved children and worked at Jenny’s Daycare Center in Goldsboro. She also kept children and her grandchildren at her home. Evelyn had a love for flowers and enjoyed the beautiful blooms they produced.

Evelyn is survived by her sons, Danny Earl Grady of Grantham, Talmadge Gary Grady and wife, Cindy of Grantham, and David Dean Grady and wife, Jeanette of Goldsboro; sisters, Faye Coty of Dudley and Hilda Hawkins and husband, Doug of La Grange; sister-in-law, Ann Fisher and husband, Dan of Grantham; brother-in-law, Harold Grady and wife, Kaye of Fayetteville; her grandchildren, Melinda and husband, CJ of Pikeville, Austin of Grantham, Dean and wife, Kandice of Pikeville, Amanda and husband, Aaron of La Grange, Shawn of Grantham, Ashley and husband, Dwayne of Mt. Olive, and Kevin of La Grange; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Evelyn’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022, at Seymour Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Seymour Funeral Home.

The Grady family would like to express their sincere appreciation for all acts of kindness shown to them during this time of bereavement. We would especially like to thank Julie Lee, Linda “Pinky” Moore, Leslie Lane, Natalie, and everyone with Community Hospice for the compassionate care provided to Evelyn during her journey to Heaven.
