Alton Ray Wilkins, 78, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 24, 2022, surrounded by his family. Born in Wayne County on March 31, 1944, he was the son of the late Lenly Alton Wilkins and Etta Mae Waters Wilkins.

For 35 years, Alton worked faithfully for CP&L as an electrical engineer. Alton attended Progressive Presbyterian Church. He was also a former member of Oakland Friends Meeting where he served as treasurer for many years. Alton was an avid UNC fan. He enjoyed watching the Tar Heels play, no matter the sport.

Family was paramount in Alton’s life. Whenever his grandsons had a baseball game, you could count on Alton to be there. Nothing pleased Alton more than being with his family. Alton will always be remembered as a faithful husband, caring father, and loving grandfather.

A service to celebrate Alton’s life will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery and are welcome to come by the home.

Alton is survived by his wife, Jane Hardison Wilkins; son, Dean Wilkins and wife, Brandy of Goldsboro; daughter, Kimberly Carpenter and husband, Nick of Supply, NC; grandsons, Peyton Wilkins, Dalton Wilkins, Noah Carpenter; sister, Carolyn Wilkins Howell and husband, Jack of Princeton; niece, Jackie Howell Hudson and husband Jamie; and great-nieces, Makenzi and Madison Hudson.

In addition to his parents, Alton was preceded in death by his in-laws, Earl and Lois Hardison.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Community Home Care and Hospice including Ashley, Carol, Catherine, Leslie, and Chaplain Ramon Mizzell. In addition, the family would like to give a special thanks to two caregivers, Christy Peterson and Lori Pope.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Community Home Care and Hospice 2309 Wayne Memorial Dr, Goldsboro, NC 27534 or to Progressive Presbyterian Church 3790 Progressive Church Rd, Princeton, NC 27569 in memory of Alton.
