Velda Faye Smith Howell, 86, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Wayne County on August 6, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Gurney Elwood and Alice Faye Gray Smith.

In addition to her parents, Velda was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert Miller “Bobby” Howell; grandparents, Thomas E. and Berchie Smith; and aunt, Delphia Smith.

Velda is survived by her daughter, Katrina “Nene” Howell; her beloved family and friends until the end, Christine Sousa, Dustyn Finchum, Brianna Finchum, Jordan Grady, Jaxon Scott, Bo Holt, Josh Daniels, Ashley, Abby, Jay, Marina, Dom, and Dax.

A service to celebrate Velda’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2022 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Mr. Dustyn Finchum officiating. Interment will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery on Hood Swamp Road. The family will receive friends following the services at the cemetery.
