Board Members Discuss Higher Pay For Classified Employees

(GDN) – On April 14, 2022, Dr. David Lewis presented the Superintendent’s Proposed Budget for 2022-23 at the Wayne County Board of Education meeting.

Chief Finance Officer, Leslie Rouse, shared that nearly $3 million dollars would be committed to increasing salaries and benefits for classified employees.

Dr. Lewis reminded the Board that this increase was simply Phase I, and is intended for classified employees to begin being paid $15 per hour or receive a 2.5% salary increase, whichever is greater.

Members also asked a number of questions specific to healthcare costs, the funds committed to increase classified salaries and benefits, and how program monitoring and outcomes occur as it relates to spending.
