The Goldsboro Police Department is warning citizens of a Scam Alert. They say an imposter is making phone calls and if not answered, leaving a voicemail to contact them.
They have received a call regarding a person identifying himself as Sergeant Dwayne Dean of the Goldsboro Police Department. The department did have an employee by the name of Dwayne Dean, who has since retired.
The caller ID shows the call coming from the City of Goldsboro, and the number listed is the front desk of the police department. The caller is asking for the person to contact them at a different number and that “the matter is urgent.”
Police say scammers know how to “spoof” a telephone number to make it look like the call is from a legitimate source. If you receive any such suspicious calls or voicemails, call the Goldsboro Police Department at 919-705-6572.
