Sheldon Earl “Shag” Sutton, 69, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2022. He was born in Lenoir County on August 6, 1952 to Peggy Ann Hudler Sutton and the late William Hardy Sutton. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Christopher Brian Johnson.

With a great love for the outdoors, Shag was in his element when hunting or fishing. From deer to duck or coon, Shag’s keen sense was all he needed to accompany his rifle for a successful hunt.

Anything that could be cooked on a grill had been tried by Shag. Whatever he cooked, it was going to be good. His family fondly remembers the perfection of his steaks, chicken, ribs, and fish.

Though Shag loved his family immensely, he was always a handful. Young at heart, he never felt his age, and surely never acted it. He appreciated the time spent with family at get-togethers and looked forward to them as they were approaching.

Fond of a cigarette, Shag could often be found with one in his mouth, and never without a pack in his pocket. For him, there were none better than Pall Mall 100’s.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Thursday, April 14, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home.

Shag is survived by his sisters, Margie S. Johnson and husband, Jesse and Michele Davidson and husband, Scott; nieces and nephews, Mendy Marcin and husband, Mike, Douglas Davidson, and Dylan Davidson; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Olivia, Michael, Connor, and Emilee.
