Katie Ellen Rose Mitchell

Katie Ellen Rose Mitchell

April 9, 2022, 93, Goldsboro –

Katie Ellen Rose Mitchell, 93, entered her Heavenly home in the early hours of Saturday, April 9, 2022, while surrounded by the love and warmth of her family. She was born in Wayne County to the late Joe Wilburn Rose, Sr. and Alice Hollowell Rose on October 15, 1928. In addition to her parents, Katie was preceded in death by her husband, L.E. Mitchell. Jr.; daughter, Beverly M. Foss; brother, Joe W. Rose, Jr.; and sisters, Helen R. Allen and Alice Faye Rose.

Katie had a strong commitment and love for her Lord and Savior. As an attentive mother and grandmother, she taught the love and fear of God to her family and ensured that they were in church when the doors were opened. She lived by the Word of God and leaned strongly on her personal values. Katie was a faithful member at Spring Hill Original Free Will Baptist Church. She was active in all church activities, especially the Women’s Auxiliary where she served as treasurer for many years.

Katie’s quiet and laid-back demeanor endeared her to everyone she met. Never easily angered and with a low-key personality, Katie was the calming presence in her family. Her Christ-like spirit made her a wonderful representation of a Proverbs 31 woman. With a talent for sewing and an ethic of hard work, Katie retired from R.G. Barry Company. She took pride in her work and it always showed.

Family was at the center of Katie’s life. She was a loving and patient wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. There was nothing that Katie didn’t cook well. When those meals were on the table, everyone pulled up a chair. Known as “Grandma”, Katie loved nothing more than spoiling her grandchildren. Katie loved everyone, and everyone loved Katie.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at Spring Hill O.F.W.B. Church followed by a service to celebrate Katie’s life at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Pastor Al Warrick officiating. The interment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Katie is survived by her daughters, Brenda M. Smith of Rosewood, Deborah M. Wells and husband Ray of Fremont and Sheila M.
