Wayne County Commissioners Discuss $750 Million Dollar Opioid Settlement

North Carolina is receiving $750 Million to fight the Opioid Crisis. At the Board of Commissioners meeting on April 5, 2022, Judge Beth Heath spoke about the opioid settlement funding in North Carolina and potential partnerships. She also provided updates on the district’s drug court programs and how the programs work.

Opioids are a class of drugs including heroin, fentanyl and prescription drugs like oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, and morphine. They are used to block pain signals between the body and the brain. Although they are effective at relieving pain, they are highly addictive especially when used to treat chronic, long-term pain.
