(GDN) – On Thursday, March 24, 2022, the Goldsboro Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority gathered for a “Refuse to be Silenced” symposium at the Wayne County Public Library. The Social Action Committee event featured a nonpartisan panel discussion on the importance of voting.

Moderator Mark Colebrook was joined by North Carolina House of Representatives Dr. Raymond Smith, Jr. and the Honorable Retired Judge David Brantley.

Members of the community engaged in conversations on voter rights for all citizens including felony offenders as well as voting rules, turn-out rates, registration and early voting.

The discussion also focused on the difference between voting in the primary and the general elections, provisional ballots, mail-in ballots and the importance of the census and redistricting.
