Miss Eva Nan Summerlin, a life-long resident of Summerlin’s Crossroads, rural Mount Olive, passed away early Saturday morning, April 2, 2022, at the age of 84.

She will be remembered as being a business education teacher, having begun her teaching career in Jamesville, before joining the faculty of Southern Wayne Senior High School from where she retired. A vital member of her community, she was a life-long member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she served in various capacities. She resided on the family farm in the home place where she had lived since birth. Miss Summerlin was a strong supporter of Oak Wolfe Volunteer Fire Department and its ladies auxiliary through the participation of her father and brothers in volunteer service.

Miss Eva Nan is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews, Mary Allen Hudson of O’Berry Center, Goldsboro, Billie Gay Summerlin Stokes and husband, Tom, Raymond McCoy Summerlin and wife, Beth, Tracie Summerlin Holcomb and husband, Rocky, Clayton Kent Summerlin and wife, Carol, Lu Anne Summerlin and significant other, Ronnie, Michael Troy Summerlin and friend, Robert, and Joseph McCoy Hudson and wife, Rose; 13 great-nieces and nephews; four great-great-nieces and nephews; additional loved ones and friends, Jean Hollowell, Christine Bass, Maynor Perez; and extended members of the Summerlin and Grady families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, McCoy S. and Nannie Grady Summerlin; a sister, Mary Lou Summerlin Hudson; brothers, Col. Billy M. Summerlin (U.S. Marine Corps, retired) and his wife, Gaynelle P. Summerln, Jimmy O. Summerlin and his wife, Ernesteen Summerlin, David Louis Summerlin; and Henry Paul Summerlin; and a great-nephew, Eric McCoy Hudson.

Funeral services for Miss Summerlin will be Tuesday, April 5, at 3 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church, 240 Bethel Church Road, Mount Olive, NC, officiated by the Rev. Wanda G. Simmons, with burial following in the Summerlin Family Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the church during the hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial gifts be made to Bethel Church, c/o Charles Ivey, 2284 Summerlin’s Crossroads Road, Mount Olive, NC 28365.
