Mary Kate Merritt, 66, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Wayne UNC Health Care in Goldsboro surrounded by her family.

Kate was born in Wayne County to the late Dewey and Bernice Harrell Merritt on August 16, 1955. For many years, Kate owned and operated Woodcraft Furniture in Downtown Goldsboro. To know her was to witness a rare blend of kindness, strength, independence, humor, and love. She will be missed here on earth, but we take solace in the fact that she has now rejoined the love of her life, Danny!

At her request, no formal service will be held.

Kate is survived by her sisters, Robin M. Fraim and Mardie M. Sauls and husband John; sister-in-love, Brenda Peters and husband, Daniel; nieces and nephews, John Sauls III and wife Caroline, Michele Beal and husband Greg, Tracy Whitfield and husband Mark, Ashlee Williams, Michael Newton, Sierra Malpass and fiancé Hunter Langston; and great-nieces and nephews, Taylor Whitfield, Kristen Whitfield, Seth Beal, Alice Williams, Michael Newton, Shaley Newton and Gabriel Sauls.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Danny Ray Mozingo (CLH); her sister, June Merritt; and her brother-in-law, Pat Newton.
