Julia Thornton Keen, 92, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Genesis Health Center in Mt. Olive. Born in Wayne County on February 16, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Henry Thornton and Cora Ezzell Thornton.

Julia was a homemaker all of her life. While taking care of her home, she enjoyed sewing and listening to gospel music. Julia had a heart for others. Nothing would please her more than being able to help others in their time of need. Julia will always be remembered as a great caregiver and friend to others.

Family was always paramount in Julia’s life. The apples of her eye were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Julia will always be remembered as being a great Mama, Mammy, MeMe, and Grandma.

A graveside service to celebrate Julia’s life will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Wayne Memorial Park with Pastor Andy Stovall presiding. The family will receive friends following the service.

Julia is survived by her son, William “Buddy” Keen and wife, Donna; daughter, Theresa Ann Keen; grandchildren, Lorianne Pearce, Kelly Boyle and husband, Glen, Jeremey Pearce, and Krissy Liebe, and Christian Liebe; great-grandchildren, Taylor Smith, Jillian Pearce, Hunter Brodersen, Clara Boyle, Keenan Liebe, Olivia Boyle, Cole Liebe, and Isabella Pearce; great-great-grandchildren Liam Ogburn and Maverick Smith; and son-in-law, Freeman Pearce.

In addition to her parents, Julia is preceded in death by her husband, Lebern William Keen, daughters, Judy Pearce and Bettie Jean Keen; sisters, Adele Thornton and Betty Langston.
