Fremont Elementary Students Take Home Top Reading Prize

Fremont Elementary students successfully put their reading skills to the test by winning the Wayne County Public Schools Elementary Battle of the Books competition. The competition took place on Friday, March 25, at the Dillard/Goldsboro Alumni Cultural Center with approximately 80 students from 10 schools competing.

The Elementary School Battle of the Books is a quiz bowl style competition that encourages reading. Contestants, who are in grades 4-5, must read 15 books chosen by a statewide committee, and the competition tests students’ comprehension of the books.

Rosewood Elementary took second place. Northeast Elementary took third place. The other schools that participated in the competition include: Carver Primary, Carver Heights Elementary, Eastern Wayne Elementary, Grantham Middle, Mount Olive Middle, Northwest Elementary, and Spring Creek Middle.
