Joyce Cox Johnson, age 86, of Mount Olive died in the early morning hours on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro. Her loving family was at her side. Joyce was born in the Grantham Community to the late William Rufus Cox and Lillie Hall Cox. She was married to the late Willie Walter Johnson.

Ms. Johnson was a homemaker and a member of Grants Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Mount Olive. She was a very active member of the church until her health declined. At Grants Chapel, she served her Lord and Savior by being a Sunday school teacher, VBS teacher, and a member of the church choir.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Monday Evening, March 28, 2022, at 6:00 P.M. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, Rev. Mickey Whitfield officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. A graveside committal service will be held Tuesday morning, March 29, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Joyce is survived by two sons; Willie Ray “Bud” Johnson and friend, Bonnie of Mount Olive, Lynn Johnson and wife, Angie of Mount Olive, a daughter; Wanda Johnson Sloan and husband, Troy of Chinquapin. Brothers; John L. Cox of Pikeville, Eddis Gerald “Boo” Cox of Oregon. Sister; Carole Bartee of Georgia. Four Grandchildren; Alan Johnson, Abigail Johnson, Johnson Sloan and wife Jessi, & Walter Sloan.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings- Billy Ray Cox & Alice Faye Cox Smith.

The family will be meeting at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Lynn & Angie Johnson 1318 Zion Church Road, Mount Olive.
