(GDN)–A head-on collision involving a passenger car and a pickup truck occurred near the Wayne-Duplin county line around 5 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Members of Mount Olive Fire Department along with several EMS units from Wayne County and law enforcement from Mount Olive Police, Wayne County Sheriff deputies and the North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the accident on Kelly Springs Road near the Wayne and Duplin County line. That section of Kelly Springs Road was closed for several hours while the North Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the accident.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital and the small child from the car was rushed to a Medevac helicopter at the Mount Olive Airport.

A female driver of the passenger vehicle and child were killed in the crash.
