March 24, 2022, 87, Goldsboro –

(Sudie) Marie Whitfield Lofton, passed away Thursday evening at the Brian Center in Goldsboro, NC.  Born in Wayne County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Eddie and Melissa Wooten Whitfield and the wife of the late Pearlie Lofton.  She was a member of Greater St. John Free Will Baptist Church in Dudley, NC.

A Graveside Service to celebrate her life will be held Friday, April 1, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in Wayne Memorial Park with Flossie Lang officiating.  Her family will visit with family and friends after the service at the gravesite.

Marie is survived by her sons, Mickey Lofton & wife, Angela and Michael Lofton;  three brothers, Thomas Whitfield, Marvin Whitfield and Brownie Whitfield; sisters, Helen Whitfield, Rachel Farrell, Gladys Johnson, Minnie Singleton, Margie Hackley and Myrtle Mitchell; ten grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Edgar Lee Yelverton, Jr.; daughter, JoAnn Howard; son-in-law, James R. Howard; grandson, Keith Randall Howard; brothers, J.D. Whitfield, William Whitfield and Jesse Whitfield;  sisters, Louise Doctor and Bernice Kornegay
