Freeze Warning Tonight For Wayne & Surrounding Counties

(GDN)–Before you go to bed tonight you might want to cover, or bring inside, any tender plants and protect any outdoor pipes. The overnight low temperature in Wayne County is expected to drop to 30 degrees with wind gusts as high at 22 MPH. Because of those conditions the National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning:

…FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM TO 9 AM EDT MONDAY…

  • WHAT…Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 32 expected.
  • WHERE…Edgecombe, Wilson, Wayne, Scotland, Hoke, Cumberland and Sampson Counties.
  • WHEN…From 3 AM to 9 AM EDT Monday.
  • IMPACTS…Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
