Duane Curless Brown

Duane Curless Brown, age 88, passed away Saturday at Wayne UNC Health Care. Born in Caribou, Maine, he was the son of the late Herbert Milton Brown and Elizabeth Ann Curless Brown. He was a twenty-year veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of the Oak Forest Church of Christ where he served as an Elder for over 45 years.

A service to celebrate Mr. Brown’s life will be held Friday, March 25, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Oak Forest Church of Christ with Lennie Reagan officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at Wayne Memorial Park. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Carol Brown; daughters, Donna Gummere and husband, Jim, and Leslie Williams; a sister, Mary Lou Brown; four grandchildren, Shannon Ely, Jamie Gummere, Jodi Sites and Chance Williams; six great grandchildren, Wesley Sites, Katlyn Gummere, Isabella Ely, Mia Ely, Emma Sites and Hero Stremfel-Williams; along with his loving family at Oak Forest Church of Christ.

He received a BS in Accounting from Bryant College, Rhode Island (1953), and an MS in Business from University of Rhode Island (1961). He enlisted in the Air Force in 1954, retiring as a Lt Col in 1974.

He began his military career as an enlisted payroll clerk, held numerous administrative duties in Medical Services and Office of the Surgeon General before retiring as the Hospital Administrator from Seymour Johnson, AFB. Following retirement he held positions as Chief of Support Services at Cherry hospital, Accounting Supervisor at Hevi-Duty Electric, and tinkered as a Real Estate Broker and Car salesman before completely retiring in 1982.

Duane was passionate about God, his family, and a close third….golf. He was a man of strong faith; a man who showed his love to his family every day; a man with an infectious laugh and constant encouragement; a man that will be fondly remembered and very missed.
