Edward Ray “Eddie” Smith, 63, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Wayne UNC Health Care, surrounded by his family. Born in Wayne County on June 10, 1958, he was the son of Shirley Wallace Downey and the late James Smith.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Tonya Crumpler Smith; son, Darren Smith; step-father, Jerry Downey; brothers, Bennie Smith (Bridget), Christopher Brian Downey (Melba), and Jeremy Downey; brother and sister-in-law, Joe Crumpler (Cathy) and their daughter, Sarah; and his beloved canine companion, Prince.

Eddie owned and operated his own lawn care service. He attended Wilson First Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Eddie spent countless meticulous hours tending to his Koi pond, it was his pride and joy.

A service to celebrate Eddie’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2022 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Pastor John Horrell officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.
