Ann Funderburk Broadaway

March 9, 2022, 74, Goldsboro –

Ann Funderburk Broadaway, 74, entered into the presence of her Lord on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. Ann was born in Monroe, North Carolina to the late Reece and Marth Jane Funderburk on July 30, 1947.

Earning an Associates Degree from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, Ann also attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was employed as the insurance manager for Eastern Carolina Surgical Associates for over 25 years.

An ardent reader, Ann spent many hours enjoying the journey she encountered as the novels she read led her through time and destination. She shared her love of reading with others by maintaining membership in various book clubs, as well as advocating for the Wayne County Public Library through her service as a member of the Friends of the Library.

Traveling with her husband was an event to which Ann often looked forward. Any destination was wonderful, but the family beach vacations to Emerald Isle were the highlight.

A member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Ann utilized her skills and talents to serve her Lord and further the ministries of the congregation. She was a ringer in the handbell choir and took on the many background tasks necessary for flawless worship services as a member of the altar guild. She could often be found in the church office, helping with paperwork, answering the phones, and assisting the staff in any way she could.

A service to celebrate Ann’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Harry presiding. The family will greet friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. A private inurnment for the family will be held in the church columbarium.

Ann is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bill Broadaway; daughters, Marty Griffin and husband, Brad of Charlotte and Claire Broadway and husband, Chris Pappaioanou of Charlotte; grandchildren, Will Griffin and Jack Griffin; and sister, Linda Labat of Murrells Inlet, SC.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given in Ann’s memory to the Friends of the Wayne County Library, 1001 E. Ash Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530 or to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 206 E. Chestnut Street, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
