Wayne Co. Health Dept. Wins United Way Spirit of NC Award

(GDN)-United Way of Wayne County announced that the Wayne County Health Department will receive the 2021 Spirit of North Carolina Award for Post-Pandemic Champion. Moving from response to recovery from the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Wayne County Health Department has led the way in meeting community needs through their proactive efforts to protect the health of our community.

United Way of North Carolina’s annual Spirit of North Carolina award celebrates organizations for their campaign excellence achieved through impactful events, engaged leadership, and volunteer engagement. Organizations championing DEI values and post-pandemic rebuilding efforts are also celebrated. On March 1st, United Way of North Carolina will recognize 75 winners representing 22 local United Ways across the state.“

The Spirit of North Carolina Award gives United Way of Wayne County an opportunity to acknowledge organizations who positively impact our neighborhoods” said Sherry Archibald, Executive Director “We applaud the Wayne County Health Department for being difference makers in our community and are excited to honor them on March 1st.”

“The Wayne County Health Department was recognized for the creative and rapid response they took to protect the health of Wayne County citizens,” said Archibald.

Dr. Brenda Weis, Director of the Wayne County Health Department was made aware of this recognition at the United Way of Wayne County’s Annual Meeting earlier this week. On behalf of the Wayne County Health Department, she will receive this award at the Wayne County Commissioners Meeting March 1st and attend the virtual celebration, also on March 1st.
