Wrestling: Local Wrestlers Qualify For State Championships

Rosewood had nine wrestlers qualify for the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1A individual wrestling championships.

Finishing first in their weight class and claiming gold medals were Jason Kennedy, (106 lbs), Logan Tortual (126 lbs) and Tyler Parrish (195 lbs).

Finishing second with silver medals were Michael Linko (132 lbs), Gavin Davis (138 lbs) and Matthew Wade (285 lbs). Ryan Deloach (182 lbs) was the Eagles’ lone third-place medalist. Brayden Holmes (113 lbs) and KD Davis (152 lbs) came in fourth.

Rosewood finished as the 1A East regional runner up in the team standings behind its archrival Uwharrie Charter Academy.

In the 3A East regional, C.B. Aycock’s Dallas Bailey and Eli Davis qualified for the 3A individual wrestling championships. Bailey won came in first, while Davis finished in fourth place. With Bailey’s win, a Golden Falcon has won an individual regional champion for the seventh year in a row.

The state championships will be held at the Greensboro Coliseum, start on Thursday, and will continue until state champions are crowned on Saturday evening.
