Second Rabid Raccoon Found In Kinston

(GDN) — Lenoir County authorities are warning citizens to watch for rabid raccoons.   Last week Wednesday, the Kinston Police Department contained a raccoon that was acting strangely in the area of Emma Webb Park.  This is the second raccoon identified as rabid in the same area of the city.  The Lenoir County health Department urges residents:

  • Inform the LCHD, the hospital or your doctor if you’ve been scratched or bitten or have handled an animal that could be rabid.
  • Don’t approach or touch a wild animal or an animal that could be rabid.
  • Ensure pets are up to date on rabies vaccinations.
  • Keep pets away from stray or rabid animals.
