Wayne UNC Health Care Updates Visitor Policy

Wayne UNC Health Care will update its visitor policy effective Wednesday, February 2, 2022. Each patient will continue to be allowed one designated, screened visitor in most inpatient areas. Patients under COVID-19 investigation or who are COVID positive will also be allowed one visitor each day during the Covid Unit visitation hours, currently 10 am – 12 pm and 4 pm – 6 pm each day.

“Wayne UNC Health Care understands the vital role that families and visitors play in the health and healing of our patients. We feel like we are finally in a place where we can safely allow a limited number of visitors to our Covid Unit,” says Dr. Jessie Tucker III, Wayne UNC Health Care President & CEO.

The updated visitor policy is designed to put patients first, by providing a way to allow them to connect with the ones they love. The policy still limits the number of visitors to one per day, and those visitors will be required to be screened upon entry to the hospital.

Tougher visitor restrictions were implemented in March 2020, when the pandemic first hit Wayne and surrounding counties. Wayne UNC may make further updates to its visitor policies in the future, as the COVID-19 situation evolves.

Visitors to Wayne UNC must:

  • Wear a hospital provided mask at all times while in the facility.
  • Be over the age of 18
  • Pass a health screening
  • Have no cold or flu-like symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste/smell, or have tested positive for COVID in the last 14 days.

“We also encourage patients’ loved ones to use electronic communication for “virtual visitation,” like Face Time and Skype, in place of in-person visitation wherever possible.
