George Washington Swinson, Jr.., known to all as G. W. Swinson, Jr., gained his wings on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.

G. W. served in the United States Air Force for four years before beginning a law enforcement career which spanned more than 32 years, during which time he served as chief of police in Mount Olive and Calypso. G. W. was known and loved by so many. He was a member of the Bear Marsh Baptist Church.

G. W. was preceded in death by his father, George Washington Swinson, Sr.; his mother, Nannie Ruffin Lambert Swinson; brother, Marvin James Swinson; and sister, Bobbie Swinson Deaver.

He leaves behind his wife, Linda Swinson, of the home; children, Alice “Princess” Swinson Dixon and husband, Jimmy, of Mount Olive, Gary “Skipper” Swinson and wife, Tommie, of Goldsboro, Alex Swinson and wife, Katie, of Angier, and Danny Gonzalez of Raleigh; grandchildren, Tiffany Grady (Ian) of Goldsboro, Emilee Swinson, Destiny Gonzalez, Daniela Gonzalez, Olivia Swinson, and Noah Swinson; a special great-granddaughter, Caroline Norris; nephews, Orlando Gonzalez and niece, Claudette, and Ricky Deaver; and his beloved companion, Dutchess.

Visitation for the G. W. Swinson family will be Tuesday, February 1, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 2, at 1 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home. Presiding will be the Rev. Robert Ellis and the Rev . Paul Rose. Burial will be in the Swinson-Walker Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to a local center for animal welfare would be appreciated, knowing of G. W.’s steadfast love for animals.
