Men’s Basketball: UMO Falls To Barton On The Road

WILSON – The University of Mount Olive men’s basketball team fell to Barton College 88-82 on Wednesday. This loss takes the Trojans to 9-9 overall and 8-6 in conference play.

INSIDE THE SCORE

Mount Olive took an early five-point lead over Barton with 18:19 remaining. The Bulldogs answered back and took a four-point lead 11-7 with 15:06 remaining.

The Trojans tied the game at 15 with a three-pointer from Jeremiah Phifer with 12:36 remaining. Barton took back control of the game as the Bulldogs took a 12-point lead 29-17 with 9:37 remaining.

With 1:41 remaining, Alan Treakle’s three-pointer helped the Trojans get within six points of the Bulldogs, but the Bulldogs took a 42-34 lead to head into the second half.

Matthias Caver layup at the start of the second half made the score 42-36. With 15:26 remaining, Treakle sank in a three-pointer that brought the Trojans within two of the Bulldogs.

At the 14-minute mark the Bulldog lead was down to 55-54 thanks to Darius Spragley layup gave the Trojans. UMO then gained its second lead of the contest with 10:38 remaining off a layup from Michael Brown.

However, Barton carried the momentum for the remainder of the game and won 88-82.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS

Spragley led the Trojans with 26 points, while Caver took home eight points and four rebounds.

Mount Olive will stay on the road as the Trojans travel to Belmont Abbey on Jan. 28 at 6:00 PM.
