Wayne UNC Suspends Asymptomatic COVID Testing In Hospital Emergency Dept., Modifies Visitation Policy

Effective immediately, Wayne UNC Health Care will no longer administer COVID tests to the general public who are not experiencing symptoms in the emergency department (ED). Additionally, visitation in the ED waiting room is only permitted when assistance is needed to navigate the visit or if the patient is a pediatric patient.

Wayne UNC remains committed to the health and safety of our patients, Teammates, and community members. The Omicron variant has placed a considerable strain on resources. Wayne UNC is working to safeguard our Emergency Department’s time and tools to properly care for all patients seeking emergent care. Patients seeking asymptomatic COVID testing can:

  • Visit WayneGov.com for local testing options.
  • Visit the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) website to find a free testing site near you.
  • Request a free at-home test kit from LabCorp.

As always, if you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or visit your nearest Emergency Department.

More local testing options can be found below.
