(GDN) — There’s a lull in the snow and ice falling across Eastern North Carolina this morning, but don’t let that fool you.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Wayne County until 7 AM on Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, additional snow will return this afternoon with accumulations of 2-4 inches as well as the possibility for a light glaze of ice.

This morning, a major hazard will be the possibility of black ice on the roadways.

Temperatures have dropped just below freezing overnight, leading to the formation of black ice on untreated roadways and surfaces, particularly bridges, overpasses, and shaded locations.

Travel may be treacherous, especially during the morning and evening commutes.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of emergency.
