City Honors Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

(GDN) — Decades later, the work and message of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. resonates across the nation.

For the second year in a row, the City of Goldsboro hosted its annual MLK Day event in an online format.

Wayne County Public Library Director Donna Phillips urged everyone to answer Dr. King’s call to be of service to others and build peace amongst our neighbors.

Dr. Jessie Tucker, President and CEO of Wayne UNC Health Care, was the keynote speaker for Monday’s event.

Tucker says Dr. King “sought to be a tide to lift all boats and elevate us all.”

Dr. Tucker also spoke about the impact of visiting the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, TN, and urged everyone to visit the landmark.

Tucker says he was reminded of the importance of education and perseverance following his visit to the museum years ago.

Dr. Tucker also says it continues to remind him that “life is too short to spend it hating someone no matter what they do.”

Kay-Tee of 92.7 JAMZ was the host for Monday’s event.
