Jack Dixon Smith, Sr.

Jack Dixon Smith, Sr., age 78, passed away on Monday to be welcomed in a grand reunion with his wife of 57 years, Ann Sullivan Smith. Born in Wayne County to the late Relmon Seth-Isaac Smith and Velma Gregory Smith, he lived his entire life in the Rosewood Community where he was a well-known farmer. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Lehman G. Smith, Sr. and his sister, Joyce Ann Smith McClure, along with his brothers-in-law, Roger Harkey and Joe McClure.

Jack was a loving husband and father that would tell you he was a sinner, saved by grace through faith. A faithful member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church, He was a Sunday school teacher and lived a life of service. He loved helping his neighbors and showed the love of Christ through his actions. Jack was often quiet, but very wise when he spoke, always quick with a smile and kind words. An avid outdoorsman his entire life, he enjoyed drinking his coffee and eating his chocolate chip cookies. Above all else, he loved his family as they were what was most important to him.

A service to celebrate Jack’s well-lived life will be held Thursday at 2:00 pm at Pine Forest United Methodist Church with Pastor Brian Lowman officiating. The family will greet friends between 1 and 2, prior to the service, in the church fellowship hall. Burial will follow at the Pine Forest Cemetery.

He is survived by his children, Jack Dixon Smith, Jr. and wife, Angelia Smith; Cynthia Smith Cuddington and husband, Alan Cuddington; Terrie Smith Braxton and husband, Donel Braxton; Jennifer Smith Strickland and husband, Billy Strickland, II; his sisters, Sandra Smith Harkey; LaNell Smith Evans and husband, Danny Evans; Debbie Smith Creech and husband James Creech; and sister-in-law whom he adored, Polly Smith; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Jack.
