That Cough May Not Be COVID: Flu Circulating In N.C.

(GDN) — With so much focus on the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, it can be easy to forget the other potentially deadly virus that rears its ugly head this time of year.

Wayne County Board Chair Joe Daughtery got a taste of this year’s flu, and he offered a warning at last week’s county board meeting.

Daughtery says he was stuck in bed on Christmas Eve and Day with the flu.

He says he was sure he had COVID-19, but he was shocked when he got tested and found out it was in fact the flu.

There are symptoms of COVID-19, the flu and the common cold that can overlap.

For instance, cough and fever can both be symptoms of COVID and the flu.

Those experiencing symptoms are urged to get tested.

Experts also warn that it is possible to have the flu and COVID-19 at the same time.
