Jo Ann Williams Carlyle, 77, departed for her Heavenly home on Monday, January 3, 2022. Jo Ann was born in Duplin County to the late Robert and Ruby Whaley Williams on November 13, 1944. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Leamon Edward Carlyle, Sr., and a son, Leamon Edward “Eddie” Carlyle, Jr.
For 25 years, Jo Ann worked at Hampton Industries as a seamstress. What would have been a full career for many was just the beginning for Jo Ann, for she went on to work at Caswell Center as a caregiver for 21 years. There, she created and maintained many lasting friendships with her coworkers, her patients, and their families. The bonds created were so strong, she continued to visit the center often after her retirement.
Not one to sit still for long, Jo Ann had a deep desire for traveling. Trips to the mountains or the beach were common and welcome, but any place was fair game so long as she was on the go.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Jo Ann took great effort to care for her family. She lovingly attended to the needs of many family members in their final days, and her day-to-day care of her husband and children was beyond exceptional. Being “Grandma” and “Mimi” to her grandchildren was one of the ultimate joys of life, for each was the apple of her eye. Sunday lunches were a special time that brought all together at her table where good food and fellowship were a delight.
A member of Daly’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in La Grange for nearly all of her life, Jo Ann devoted her time and gifts to her Lord through the ministries of the church. Always in attendance when the church doors opened, her love for Jesus was evident to all she met.
A service of love and remembrance will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Rouse Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation in the hour prior to the service. Committal will follow at Daly’s Chapel Church Cemetery in La Grange.
Jo Ann is survived by her children, Lisa Carlyle Holland and husband, David, and Michael Lynn Carlyle and wife, Nikki; daughter-in-law, Wendy Carlyle; grandchildren, P.J. Herring, Spencer Herring, Nathan Carlyle, Emily Carlyle, and Madison Carlyle; brother, Roger Williams; a special niece, Jenny Edwards; and friends she saw almost daily, Allison Price, Brantley Price, and Gail Rouse.
