Jerry Lamar Taylor, 86, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Kinston. Born in Hartford, Alabama on May 12, 1935, he was the son of the late Alex Taylor and Edith Sorrells Taylor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clinton Taylor and Talmage Taylor.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Poston Taylor; sons, Ray Taylor and wife, Dilcia, Sam Taylor and wife, Patricia, and Ken Taylor and wife, Sindy; his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Maggey and Jeffrey Wallace, Andrew Taylor, Alex and Matt Garris, Cameron Taylor, Seth Taylor and fiancée, Crystal Fialkowski and Chris Davis; great-grandchildren, Liam, Waylon, and another on the way, due in March; and special niece, Cameron Mitchum of Charleston, SC.

He is also survived by his good friends, Joyce and James Halliwell of Four Oaks and Charlotte and Mike Bays of Durham.

Jerry retired from the United States Air Force following years of dedicated and faithful service. While stationed at Andrews AFB in Maryland, he served on Air Force One for nine years during the Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Johnson administrations. Jerry then served his country in the Vietnam War and returned to Robbins AFB in Warner Robbins, GA to a worldwide TDY Unit. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, Vietnam Ribbon, and numerous other Air Force citations.

Following his retirement from the Air Force, he worked and later retired from Northern Telecom at RTP. Upon his second retirement, Jerry was the owner and operator of Taylor A/C in Goldsboro.

A private graveside service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held at Wayne Memorial Park with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wayne County Humane Society, 1600 Clingman St, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
