Finance Position Will Help Assist In Register Of Deeds Office

(GDN) – Assistance is coming for the Wayne County Register of Deeds Office.

Register of Deeds Constance Coram appeared before the Wayne County Commissioners last week.

She first apologized for her actions at the November 2nd county board meeting.

Coram says her office is going to need the county’s board’s help and patience as new electronic record-keeping is implemented.

New equipment will be required for the office as the state goes paperless with birth and death certificates on December 31st.

She also says her office will need funding so new employees can be trained.

Coram says, according to the auditor, her office will need additional funding before the end of the fiscal year.

County Manager Craig Honeycutt asked the commissioners to approve approve procedures for how the Register of Deeds Offices handles its finances.

The Register of Deeds will still be responsible for the office’s budget, approving invoices and budget amendments.

However, instead of inputting their invoices, etc. into their computer system, the Register of Deeds will now send invoices to the Finance Department to be keyed.

The county board approved the new procedures for the Register of Deeds Office on a 5-2 vote.
