James Henry Barber II

James Henry Barber II

December 9, 2021, 83, Goldsboro –

Surrounded by the warmth of his own home and the love of his family, James Henry Barber II, 83, was summoned from this temporary home to join his voice with those in the heavenly choir on Thursday, December 9, 2021. Jimmy was born in Greene County to the late James Henry Barber, Sr. and Lessie Heath Barber on January 22, 1938.

With an eye for detail and the ability to turn his clients’ visions into reality, Jimmy worked as a master draftsman. Drawing plans for businesses and personal clients throughout his long career, his designs were the foundation of many homes and businesses throughout the area. Jimmy retired from Jackson Builders after many years of service.

Serving with the North Carolina National Guard, Jimmy took great pride in his efforts to care for friends and strangers alike during times of crisis.

Golfing was a favorite pastime for Jimmy. Spending time on the green with friends and family brought contentment and joy to his spirit. Any day was a good day for golf, for the fellowship experienced was just as important as the perfection of his game.

A long-time member of Falling Creek Baptist Church, Jimmy served his church and his Lord in various capacities. For over 48 years, he led the choir and congregation in praise to the Father as the church’s choir director. His dedication to leading others in making a joyful noise was unsurpassed and admired by all.

Family was the greatest joy of Jimmy’s life. Spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the highlight of any day. A great provider for his family, Jimmy always found ways to ensure the comfort of his family, and was always sought for his sage advice. A grand milestone for Jimmy was the celebration of marriage with his wife, a celebration that continued for over 57 years.

A service to celebrate Jimmy’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, 2021 in the sanctuary of Falling Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Ellis and Rev. Billy Webb officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Gwen Barber; children, Deane B. Markle and husband, Bill, James H. Barber III and wife Tracy, Wendy B.
