(GDN) — A Lenoir County fire leaves one person dead. The blaze was reported around 3:45 PM Friday on the 1700 block of Vernie Heath Road in Deep Run. The Deep Run, Pink Hill, and Southwood volunteer fire departments, as well as Lenoir County EMS, all responded to the scene. One person perished in the structure fire, while another had to be transported to the hospital. The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office says the fire does not appear to be criminal in nature. The Lenoir County Emergency Service Fire Marshal, Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Office of the State Fire Marshall are investigating the fatal blaze.
