Ronald Clay Hughes, 72, peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington. Born in Hazard, Kentucky on April 19, 1949, he was the son of the late Arthur Clay Hughes and Bernice Hayes Short. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Short.

Ron is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathy Hughes; daughters, Stacey Duke of Wilmington and Susan Hughes of Carolina Beach; sisters, Donna Fugate and Kay Stacy; brothers, Lynn Short and Ottie Short, all of Hazard, KY; and two grandchildren, Jake Duke and Ally Duke.

For 43 years, Ron worked in the Automotive Parts Supply industry. He had served as a board member of the NC Automotive Wholesalers Association. Ron was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club in Goldsboro where he had served as secretary. Before moving to the Leland area, Ron and Kathy were members of Adamsville Baptist Church in Goldsboro.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Seymour Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Ron’s life will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. The family respectfully requests those attending the service to wear a face covering.
