Suspect Allegedly Opens Fire At Vehicle Driven By Girlfriend

(GDN) — Just after midnight on Sunday, a Mount Olive Police officer heard gunshots on the south side of town.  All MOPD units responded to the area.  Moments later, dispatch informed officers of a call reporting a reckless driver who had left and then returned to the scene of a domestic altercation on the 500 block of E. Hillsboro Street.  Officers arrived and found the driver of the vehicle had been physically assaulted by her boyfriend.  The boyfriend, Deonte Betts, had allegedly fired several shots from a handgun at the moving vehicle being driven by the victim.  However, the victim had not been struck.  A 9 mm handgun was located on the ground at the scene.  Betts was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Discharging a Weapon into an Occupied Moving Vehicle, Assault by Strangulation, and Discharging a Firearm in the City Limits. Betts was given a “no bond” hold.
